Scientific Writing

Work and management techniques | Writing

Starting Point

Conducting scientific research and writing about it are two strands of the same job, and while the research can usually be done in your native language, the writing often can’t. English has become the scientific language of the 21st century. Non-native speakers are not only challenged by grammar, vocabulary and punctuation; to get their results published, they also have to satisfy the peer-reviewers’ and readers’ expectations. This online workshop is for researchers and graduate students who wish to publish research articles in English.

Aim

The aim of this workshop is to improve the style and structure of participants’ English academic papers and increase confidence when wri6ng research articles in English.

    Content

This course consists of six, 90-minute interactive, online teaching sessions covering the key aspects needed to write a good academic paper, plus an additional 30 minute ques6on and answer session. These sessions will be held in small groups of up to 9 participants.

    Methods

6 x online teaching sessions that take place over two days from 9:00am until 3:00pm. There will be group work using the break out function in Zoom, instructor led sessions as well as an opportunity to ask questions. A detailed handout and workbook is also provided. Max. number of participants: 9.

    Notes

The course is targeted at those who want to improve their English academic writing. It will be of benefit to all PhD students, most particularly to those currently working on a text for publication.

The content and methods of this course are similar to those of Scientific and Academic Writing. We therefore recommend to attend only one of the two courses in this semester.
