Introduction to Project Management for Universities and the Scientific Community

WWB-Area | Learning field

Research Management | project implementation

Starting Point

Whether carrying out research projects or applying for large third-party funding projects - projects increasingly determine the day-to-day work of university employees. Both the complexity of projects and the requirements of external funders are increasing markedly. But projects are usually only successful when the key management and leadership tasks are mastered in addition to the technical aspects.

This introductory course provides basic knowledge and tools for successful project management. It is an aid to successful implementation and management of the various aspects of third-party-funded projects. Participants learn essential formal project management methods and techniques, which they can apply to different types of projects.

  • Developing projects: defining project goals, stakeholder analysis
  • Planning projects: milestones and project structure plan, PM software, risk management, project communication
  • Carrying out projects: initiating projects, Agile PM approaches based on SCRUM
  • Universities as special organizations
  • Completing projects: project completion and submission, evaluation
  • Getting your staff on board: change management, leadership without formal tasking authority
