Starting Point

Scientific work involves a significant amount of reading. How about increasing your reading speed by 25-100% (depending on text difficulty and English proficiency) while at the same time improving your reading quality…and boosting your motivation?

    Content

    1. Pre-course Webinar session (2h, fixed date)
      How to read scientific papers & concentration
    2. Speed Reading Online Course
      Flexible training during 3-4 weeks, no fixed times/dates
      10 units (45-60 min. each)
      4 week long trainer accompaniment
    3. Videochat (1h, fixed date) during Speed Reading Online
      Half of the online course should be finished
    4. After-Course Webinar session (2h, fixed date)
      Efficient computer screen reading, Memory retention
    5. Optional: Speed Reading Online Refresher Course (German only)

          Methods

          Eye movement training (physical aspect), Using contextual cues, previewing and rate variation (cognitive aspects), Different practical exercises and tests with individual results. Max number of participants: 16.

          Notes

          Everyone who has to read a lot of scientific papers or other work-related texts and feels the need to improved their speed, comprehension and/or mental focus.

          (5h online presence & flat 10h online self-study phase)

          Online course. Participants receive login data by email prior the course.
          Tools
          Videoconference. Participants who want to prepare prior the course are invited to visit our Praxisblog and our Wiki.

          For employees, assistant lectures, registered doctoral candidates at TU Berlin and junior scientists at HU, FU, Charité, the course is free of charge. If you do not belong to these groups of people, please contact  for information on fees.
          Requirements
          Good/very good English reading (not necessarily speaking) proficiency is expected (approx. B2 English language level).
          Participants please keep a laptop/PC with video and audio function or a webcam and headset ready.

          Assuming successful participation, you receive a certificate of attendance.

          Your binding participation is very important to us. On the one hand, our courses are connected with high costs. On the other hand, we plan much group work and work interactively with you. Hence, should you be unable to attend the entire course or should you be prevented from attending the course at all, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can allocate the place to other interested persons. In the event of multiple unexcused absence, we reserve the right to exclude you from further ZEWK courses.
