Transforming engineering programs with Studios – the UTS experience
WWB-Area | Learning field
Teaching and Learning | Advanced teaching module
Starting Point
There is a pressing need to produce graduates who are future-ready, not just work-ready, e.g. World Economic Forum (2020).
At the University of Technology Sydney, we have embarked on a major curriculum change project, commenced in 2014, using studios to build these future skills.
How can these approaches be adapted in your program at TU Berlin?
Aim
The goal is to consider the future skills that our graduates need and to imagine how your current teaching might be adapted to deliver these skills.
Content
The lunch lecture will provide an overview of the processes used in curriculum change and describe some of the results.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for you to consider similar changes in your own program or subjects.
- Examples of new curricula will be provided, e.g., the new mechanical and mechatronics engineering program.
- Academic development processes to equip the academic staff to teach studios will be described.
- Time will be available to consider how these approaches can be adapted in your program.
Methods
Short lectures, Q&As, discussion, group work and participants’ presentations, individual work on own programs and feedback. Max number of participants: 25
Notes
The workshop is suitable for all academic staff who are interested in adapting curricula to the new realities post-COVID.
