Im Zentrum pädagogisch-psychologischer Forschung stehen kognitive, emotionale und soziale Lernprozesse, die Bildung, Erziehung und menschlicher Entwicklung über die Lebensspanne hinweg prägen. Wir sind ein interdisziplinäres Team aus den Bereichen von Psychologie, Erziehungswissenschaft und Soziologie. In unseren Forschungsprojekten wenden wir ein breites Spektrum quantitativer und qualitativer Erhebungs- und Auswertungsmethoden an. Dabei konzentriert sich unsere Forschung aktuell auf vier Bereiche: Interessensentwicklung von Schülerinnen und Schülern, Lehrerausbildung vor allem in MINT Fächern (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften, Technik), der Entwicklung von sozialen Formen der Aggression – besonders im Kontext des Phänomens Cyberbullying sowie der psychosozialen Entwicklung im Kindes- und Jugendalter. Weitere Studien befassen sich mit dem Zusammenhang von familiären Prozessen, schulischen Diskriminierungserfahrungen und Gesundheitsverhalten in Kindheit und Jugendalter. In unserer Forschung streben wir danach, das akademische Wissen in den genannten Bereichen zu erweitern. Genau so wichtig ist uns auch das Aufzeigen von Anwendungsaspekten unserer Forschung für unterschiedliche Bildungs- und Erziehungskontexte und gesellschaftliche Institutionen.

Die Lehre des Fachgebiets Pädagogische Psychologie ist angesiedelt in der Lehrerausbildung in Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen des Instituts für Erziehungswissenschaft genauso wie im Masterstudiengang „Bildungswissenschaft – Organisation und Beratung“. Dabei werden psychologische Grundlagen von Bildung und Erziehung, Forschungsmethoden, Praxis der Schulpsychologie, Beratung, Kommunikation sowie Lehren und Lernen vermittelt. Wir stellen gesellschaftlichen Akteuren Wissen in verschiedenen Anwendungsbereichen der Pädagogischen Psychologie zur Verfügung.

Research in Educational Psychology is concerned with the study of cognitive, emotional, and social learning processes that underlie education and human development across the lifespan. We are an interdisciplinary team of psychologists and educational scientists as well as sociologists utilizing a broad range of quantitative and qualitative approaches. In our research we currently focus on three areas: Interest development of adolescent boys and girls, teacher education – especially in STEM (science-, technology-, engineering-, and math-) related fields, the development of social forms of aggression – particularly factors revolving around cyberbullying as well as the psychosocial development of adolescents. Other studies are concerned with the relationship between family processes, experiences of discrimination in schools, health behavior, and psychosocial wellbeing in childhood and adolescence. We are equally committed to advancing scientific knowledge in these areas and to communicating the application of our work in diverse educational and community settings.

The classes we offer are part of the department’s sub-division of teacher education and in the department’s master program “Educational Science – Organization and Counseling”. We provide training in the foundations of educational psychology, research methods, and the practice of school psychology, counseling, communication, teaching, and learning. We provide service in the community in a variety of areas within the applied fields of educational psychology.
