Dear Colleagues and Students,

The Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) has not only made a official commitment by signing the Diversity Charta “Charta der Vielfalt”, but is also highly aware and obliged to the issue by its internal diversity. TU Berlin is for example one of the most attractive universities for international students and guest scientists. In 2015 students from 135 countries (20% of all students) were enrolled and more than 900 international scientists were actively teaching or researching at TU. Also in regard to other dimesions such as age or social background TU Berlin can be characterised as diverse.

Acknowledging and valuing the fact of internal diversity one of the guiding principles of our university states further: “Our university members are actively engaged in promoting equal opportunity between women and men and in creating family-friendly study and working conditions. We strive to ensure equal opportunity and non-discrimination at all levels of the university organization. In our teaching and research we also explicitly embrace the plurality of world views and diverse ways of life.”

Nevertheless in interaction of people with multiple backgrounds, not only language problems might arise, but also different perspectives or even conflicts.

Therefore we at TU Berlin are interested to hear about your experiences. We want to know, in which way you have made negative experiences in the coping with diversity at our university, be it that you were discriminated yourself or that you witnessed discrimination of other persons? Of course we are also interested to learn about what services or other forms of support, which the university could offer in the future, you would have wished for in this situation? Last but not least there were maybe also instances where you experienced this support already or have made positive experiences in the coping with diversity?

We want to use your experiences, to promote our efforts for the real creation of lived and experienced equality at TU Berlin within the next years and therefore would be happy, if you would share your experiences with us via the following form. For sure this can be done completely anonymous.
