Health Insurance

By law, students are required to have health insurance whilst in Germany.

Non-EU participants

If you do not already have insurance, you will be required to take out a health insurance policy to cover your stay in Germany, in order to gain acceptance to our study program (or indeed, any study program in Germany). When selecting your insurance, please ensure that the policy documents are available in English, as we will require a copy of them as part of your enrolment process at the university.

You can choose whether you’d like to take out private health insurance in your home country, from an international health insurance provider, or whether you’d like to take out a German insurance policy (such as from Mawista or Care concept).

When you register, we will ask you to upload the policy pages of your insurance policy (where the excesses for health care are listed). We also request that you complete and upload THIS FORM FROM TK (PDF, 1,8 MB) (Techniker Krankenkasse). TK are a German public health insurance company. We will send your insurance policy, and the form (which gives us permission to do so on your behalf), to TK, so that they can check the policy is compliant with German standards. They then issue us with a confirmation certificate, which allows us to enroll you at the TU Berlin.

EU Participants

Participants from EU countries will be covered for their stay in Germany by their national health insurance, however they must have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This must be provided upon registration and be brought with them for the duration of the TU Berlin Summer & Winter University program.

*Please note, we have changed our insurance processes recently, so if you have queries regarding this, feel free to email us at summeruniversity@tubs.de*
