He represents the university internally and externally, has jurisdiction over the premises and is responsible for the smooth running of the university. He is the supervisor of the civil servants, employees and workers at the university.

Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ulrike Gutheil is also a member of the Executive Board. She heads the central university administration, supervises the departments "Personnel", "Finances" and "Buildings and Services Management" and is commissioned with the budget. As Chief Information Officer (CIO) she is also responsible for information and communications technology.
