I am currently working
on a dissertation called "Production of landscape: Norwegian -
German relations in the automobile- and road sectors 1933 -
1940". The project investigate some of the ways in which
Norwegian car enthusiasts moved a wide range of arguments, material
objects, facts and discourses from Germany into the Norwegian
discussion about the automobile. Thus the project engages with work
that has been done to realize the wishes and ambitions of the
automobile enthusiasts: to make the object - the car - common
property, and thereby establish a society based on private driving.
One of the sub-terms of the project is to investigate the ways in
which particular landscapes emerged and/or were produced in order to
accommodate the car and automobility. The theoretical resources of the
actor-network -theory (ANT) and Bruno Lator´s concept of
"bringing things back" inspire the reading of sources: texts
in car magazines and other forms of automotive writings. Material
resources, like magazines, caravans, tents, cars will be
investigated.
