Lupe

My research focuses on field differences in scientific communication and the readiness of researchers to share information. I aim to contribute to a better theoretical understanding of how epistemic practices influence sharing behaviors in the sciences. From a practical standpoint, taking field differences in sharing behaviors into account is important for the design of policies and new information systems for data sharing and ‚open science‘. In my research, I use ethnographic methods in combination with large-scale network analysis to support the systematic comparison of scientific communities. Funded by an IPODI/Marie-Curie Fellowship, I joined the ZTG in summer 2016 to study the link between scientific replication, reliability of scientific knowledge, and sharing of research data. The study investigates how increased data sharing can help to improve the reliability of scientific knowledge, a claim often made in the public debate about the irreproducibility of published research.

Research Interests:

  • Scientific communication, collaboration and information sharing, open science
  • Ethnographic study of the collective production of scientific knowledge
  • Mixed methods: integrating network analysis with ethnographies
  • Scientometrics, science mapping
  • Science of Data Science
