Chair Metallic Materials

The working field of the department Metallic Materials of the Institute for Material Science and Technology  comprehends the circular course starting with the fabrication of materials, especially by hot extrusion and its process simulation, the microstructural characterization up to the assessment of macroscopical material properties and the consequences for the optimization of the fabrication process and the microstructure. The characterization of the material microstructure,  its defined optimization  and the assessment of macroscopical properties are the focus of the research work, because the material property profiles are determined not only by its chemical composition but also by its microstructure.The work is organized in three packages:

• fabrication of materials (hot extrusion) [3]
• analysis of material microstructure [4]            
• material testing [5]
