Program description


With the introduction and establishment of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, Faculty III is consistently implements the revised, modularized diploma programs that were in introduced in Winter 2004/05. Long periods of study and high dropout rates pushed the faculty to make some radical changes seven years ago. This initiated a broad review process of the situation, with the aim of improving the study conditions as well as academic success.

Description of study programs at Faculty III

  • First year of all Bachelor’s degree programs: basic understanding of broad fundamental knowledge. If necessary, the program can be changed within the first two semesters within the faculty without incurring any major loss of time nor approval problems.
  • Process Engineering Sciences project (PIW): introduction to the future field of responsibility and the typical engineering working methods associated with it, with an insight into further studies. This project can also open doors to other subject areas, since projects from outside one’s own field of study are available to choose from, the available projects can be from many other Faculty III subject areas.
  • Early involvement in research projects, early contact with companies
  • Internships, Bachelor and Master theses within companies and institutions

Development goal of Faculty III: Training process engineers of the future

  • Understand the fundamental principles of natural sciences and engineering as well as gain expert knowledge
  • Critically appraise a scientific approach and work independently and autonomously
  • Gain knowledge of the latest technology and research
  • Pursue promising concepts
  • Carry out integrated planning, develop and implement innovative processes and products

Career paths

A wide range of professions are open to graduates of Faculty III. On the one hand, it encompasses academic and industrial research, while on the other hand, it also covers processes and process development in various industrial sectors such as plant engineering, the automotive industry and the energy industry. Graduates from Faculty III may also find their skills to be beneficial in the field of product development, the food processing and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in government agencies and ministries.
