50 years of cooperation between Moscow State University of Civil Engineering and Technische Universität Berlin
Friday, 17. May 2019
On 17 May 2019, Technische Universität Berlin held an official ceremony to celebrate a very special event in its history: the 50th anniversary of its cooperation with Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU).
TU Berlin enjoys an exceptional partnership with MGSU; a partnership which commenced with the signing of a cooperation agreement in 1969. During this period, at the height of the Cold War, it was something of a political sensation for a major Soviet university to conclude a partnership agreement with a university in what was then West Berlin. Since then, the academic chairs involved in the partnership have included Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, History of Architecture, Computing in Civil Engineering, Building Materials, and Civil Engineering and the cooperation has embraced several generations of professors. The cooperation was extended in 2008 to include an agreement for the joint education of undergraduate students.
The excellent relationship between TUB and MGSU is reflected in the numerous honorary doctorates awarded mutually to academics from both institutions, with the recipients including former TUB president, Professor Kurt Kutzler. No less significant in this respect is the title of Honorary Senator of TUB conferred upon the then president of MSGU as well as today’s president, Professor Valery Telichenko.
The official ceremony at TU Berlin was attended by a high-ranking delegation which included the rector of MSGU, Professor Andrey Volkov and its president, Professor Valery Telichenko. Visits to the Institute of Civil Engineering provided an opportunity to present current research projects, strengthen cooperations, and establish new contacts.
