Overview

In times of increased globalization, air traffic has been characterized by a steady growth over the last decades and is expected to maintain this growth in the next years. In addition to supporting growth, the aviation community is trying to keep up with a number of technological advances and challenges including the ever-increasing use of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) for a wide variety of applications. While addressing these challenges, the safety of day-to-day operations must be maintained.

In this course students are introduced to current developments in flight guidance, navigation and traffic management topics, and prepared for the challenges that lay ahead. Practically orientated lectures, exercises and a small course projects are used to acquire the required knowledge.

Learning Goals and Syllabus

Goals:

  • Knowledge about various guidance, navigation and traffic management topics for manned and unmanned aviation
  • Knowledge about the “evolution” of flight guidance with a specific focus on UAS
  • Knowledge about basic approaches to face those challenges and to work on adequate solutions
