Occupational Accident (registering an accident)

If you have an accident at work or on your commute (only applies to the direct commute between your residence and workplace), you must immediately register the accident with the Human Resources. An inability to work must also be registered (sick note). Accidents in which you are involved but that were caused by third parties must also be registered so that TU Berlin can submit any necessary compensation claims.

Offer of Employment

In lieu of sending an employment offer, Human Resources requests that the applicant come in and sign the contract. Employees are not permitted to begin work before signing the contract. Your respective workplace (generally the academic chair in which you work) must immediately submit a confirmation you have commenced work to Human Resources as soon as you have begun.

Orphan's Pension

Student assistants are entitled to an orphan’s pension till their 27th birthday if one or both (step)parents have passed away. If your education is interrupted due to completion of compulsory military or civil service, you can request to receive the orphan’s pension beyond your 27th birthday. You must submit an application for the orphan’s pension from the pension insurer (generally the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund). As the amount of the pension depends on income above a certain level and various provisions apply, please ask for further information there in individual cases.

Overtime is not provided for in TV Stud III; this means that compensatory time off or remuneration is to be offered in exchange for overtime performed. If your workplace requests you to work overtime, it must first seek the approval of the Staff Council for Student Assistants pursuant to Section 85 PersVG Berlin. It is also possible for your workplace to increase your monthly working hours for a limited time should the need for overtime frequently reoccur and you agree to the overtime. Overtime (up to a maximum of 80 hours) cannot be worked and accumulated without the approval of your workplace.
