Who are we?

We are the Staff Council for Student Assistants or PRSB, 15 of your fellow students who also work at the University and who were each elected for a 1-year term. An administrative assistant is also part of our team, helping us with our work. Some of us have been exempted from our previous student assistant positions to allow us to fully commit ourselves (up to 80 hours) to the staff council. The rest of us continue to work in our regular positions and work an additional 20 to 40 hours per month for the staff council.

All student assistants dedicated to the concerns of student assistants are eligible to run for the staff council. Every potential candidate must register no later than May each year.  As members leave the staff council every semester, we are regularly looking for new candidates and election volunteers.

What about you?

The Staff Representation Act for the State of Berlin (Personalvertretungsgesetz für das Land Berlin - LPersVG) determines the election modalities, the composition of the staff council, term of office, responsibilities, and possibilities for participation. A staff council specifically for student assistants is currently only required in Berlin.

It is our job to represent the interests of the student assistants.  The focuses of our work are:

• Voting in hiring, extension/renewal, and termination matters

• Participation in job postings, negotiations regarding working conditions, and budget planning

• Individual advising for employees

• Monitoring adherence to the collective wage agreement
