New Publication on Mobility and Transportation in Megacities

The volume “Mobility and Transportation” in the book series “Future Megacities” is published. Publisher is Wulf-Holger Arndt, head of research unit  “Mobility and Space” of the ZTG.

The growth of Megacities creates huge challenges. One of them is reshaping mobility patterns in cities, in order to promote energy efficiency and principles of low carbon development. This volume provides an overview of solutions comprising concepts for sustainable transportation, through intelligent management, innovative instruments for integrated transport planning, modelling systems, adaptation strategies in the transport sector, and concepts for enhancing public transit. These solutions were developed for five cities of the Future Megacities Programme, by transdisciplinary and international research teams in close collaboration with local stakeholders. They are presented here against the background of immense challenges, ranging from data collection issues, modelling, and planning in fast-growing environments, to the resistance of citizens against big infrastructure projects.
