Welcome to ZTG

The Zentrum Technik und Gesellschaft (ZTG - 'Center for Technology and Society') is an institution of the Technische Universität Berlin which was established to enable research beyond disciplinary boundaries. Since current and future challenges – like climate change, biodiversity or digitalization – are complex, we carry out projects with a broad range of scientists and researchers from various fields, along with individuals, groups and institutions from civil society, business and government.
Our inter- and transdisciplinary perspective integrates social, legal, economic and user-specific concerns into innovation and transformation processes, thus putting technological and planning processes on a broader basis. Due to many years of experience in implementing this type of projects, the ZTG has developed into a competence center for methods of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. In 2016, the ZTG celebrated its 20th anniversary .
The diverse research activities of the ZTG are reflected in our structure. The six thematic areas in which we explore different fields of action are complemented by three cross-sectional areas that illustrate our social science perspective: participation, innovation and governance and sustainability. We communicate our findings from social scientist research in technology, energy, land use and mobility by publications and events, which address the scientific community as well as actors from different sectors. In this way, the ZTG supports the goal of developing solutions to societal challenges, which is anchored in the mission statement of the TU Berlin and in the TU Berlin's current vision for the future. More about the history and organization of the ZTG can be found in the menu "About us" .
