Description of the Project
Background and Introduction
The Chinese city of Qian'an currently faces substantial environmental problems which are mainly linked to traffic and transportation because no sufficient public transportation system exists that is able to cope with the significantly increasing daily commuting flows. Also, the mobility patterns in this rapidly growing industrial city are increasingly concentrating on motorized individual transport.
The city has realized the problems which are caused by this development and decided to change the direction towards a sustainable mobility concept with a well-working public transportation system. It pursues the goal to position itself as a Chinese pilot city for a sustainable urban transportation system.
This project seeks to support the city in achieving this goal by presenting international best practice examples, by discussing objectives for the future development of urban transportation together with the project partners in Germany and by developing transfer- and implementation–projects.
The knowledge transfer thereby focuses on the necessary changes of the administrative structures, the establishment of an adequate public participation and the involvement of relevant actors by developing an action plan for the introduction of a high-quality public transportation and mobility management. Thus, a knowledge transfer regarding public transportation (especially tram) and mobility management will be facilitated between the participating communal partners.
The results of two expert workshops in Qian’an and Dresden will enable a knowledge transfer on sustainable transportation concepts between both cities. Additionally, first conceptions and ideas for measures to increase the modal share of public transportation will be developed by June 2015. For the involved actors in Qian’an this will be the basis for the further implementations. In order to organize the implementations a list of priority for the implementations will be drafted. Single measures will already be implemented during project lifetime (for example: marketing campaign).
