Project description
The research project "Practice-oriented analysis of deradicalization processes" (PrADera) focuses on the subjective experiences, motivations and perspectives of people, who are turning away from jihadist movements or have already turned away, as well as, people, who remain in jihadist movements. The aim here is to identify circumstances and factors in the lifeworld, biography, social environment and society that have caused desistance or a remaining.
The data basis consists of narrative interviews. As a part of the subproject Subjective experiences and processes of change of religious and political views in the context of so-called "Islamist movements", we talk to people, who are close to or were close to jihadist movements. In addition, we involved the perspectives of people, who accompany such desistance process, for example, employees of corresponding counselling services. The aim of this study is to find out, which reasons led people to start turning away from these movements or, the other way around, to remain with them.
The results of this research project will be used to reflect on counselling and support services for people, who wish to turn away from these movements, and to develop improved approaches for intervention.
