Karim Elhakim

Lupe

Until 31.12.2018 Karim Elhakim worked as a student-assistant in the project "Cities Multi Modal (CMM)".
He finsihed his German High-school diploma (Abitur) at the German school in Cairo, Egypt - his hometown. Since he was a child he attended German schools and therefore knows German almost as a mothertongue. In 2007 he graduated from the faculty of Engineering, Cairo university with a bachelor of Architecture. In the 5 years that followed he worked in various places around Egypt, among them as an "Ecolodge coordinator" with Bedouins in South Sinai for an EU-funded project (2009-2010) but also as a Junior Architect at a high-end architectural office. After the outbreak of the Egyptian revolution at the beginning of 2001 he travelled to Cambridge/Boston USA for shortly over a month to attend the summer school titled "Career discovery - Urban Design" at the graduate school of design of Harvard University. Shortly thereafter he was awarded a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to attend his first Master Program in Public Policy (specializing in International Affairs, Public and Non-Profit Management and International Political Economy) at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt-Thuringia which he successfully completed in 2014. After working as an assistant lecturer at a private university in Kairo for 2 years after that, he was again funded to study for his second Master - this time at the TU-Berlin Campus El Gouna in the Urban Development program. Currently he is writing his Master thesis with Dr. Arndt under the title "Vision Carbon Neutral and Resilient El Gouna - Part Sustainable Mobility".
