He holds an M.A. in History, Philosophy and Sociology of Science from Bielefeld University and a B.A. in Social Sciences from the Humboldt University of Berlin. Various scholarships have allowed him to visit Columbia University, Maastricht University, and the University of Helsinki.

Arno's current research interests lie at the intersection of policy, innovation, and market studies. In his current work, he traces the innovation journeys of two policy instruments (emissions trading and biodiversity trading) and analyzes their innovation networks through a combination of document analysis, citation network analysis, and expert interviewing.
