The school was the concluding event of the first research round in which the results of the research stays of researchers from Central Asia in the TU-Berlin were presented and discussed. The school focused on the topic: Land Use/Transportation Interactions, Integrated Transportation Planning

The School consisted of an official part in each one of the host universities (KSUCTA and BHU), presentations of the guest researchers and experts as well as local stakeholders. Organizers of the project from the TU-Berlin alongside local academics participated in the school, as well as two German students.  The participants were later divided into three working groups with the following topics:

  1. Urban Expansion, Urban Sprawl and Sustainable Mobility (Modal Shift)
  2. SUMP and Air Emissions
  3. Tourism and Sustainable Mobility

After an intensive brainstorming in a "World Cafe" format, in which local academics and stakeholders took an active part, field trips took place. The scholars and the organizers visited the local trolleybus depot as well as to the ending station of the local paratransit lines (Marshrutki)

The general impression of all participants was overwhelmingly positive. Mutual learning took place, in a way that made local and external participants change their initial ideas about Bishkek┬┤s way forward towards a more sustainable urban mobility.

In the final presentation of the working groups, concrete project suggestions were made and the foundation to future cooperation in implementation projects was laid.

The school ended in a celebratory dinner, which merged well with breaking the Ramadan fasting in the evening. The last day of the school consisted of a visit to the Ala Archa national park south of the city.
